They host over 100 vendors primarily being quality Arts & Crafts items as well as a food truck court, demonstrations and live music. There will be plenty for the kiddos, from bounce houses and face painting to live animals and more!
This year they are adding a concert to the mix as they host the first ever concert on the beautiful Current River. River Jam 2022 featuring Tyler Farr will take place at Riverfront Park in Van Buren.

SPEAKER_09Absolutely, boy. It's a big weekend going on down there this weekend.
SPEAKER_06It is gonna be huge. It's gonna be huge. And our special guest today is Miss Ricky Maples, the coordinator uh with Popsticks and Fleas. She's going to join us today, and we're going to talk to her about this big event and what's going on in Van Buren. Oh, very good.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, and of course, uh, lots of stuff going on just around Van Buren in general. It's just gonna be a big day in that community.
SPEAKER_06Exactly. Let's talk about current events before we get her on the show with us. What about those Kansas City Chiefs? They put a whooping on the Buccaneers like you cannot imagine. If you didn't watch it, you missed a great game.
SPEAKER_09You missed a great game if you're a Kansas City Chiefs fan. I'd say if you're a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, you didn't much care for it. Uh but yeah, uh well, you know, we talked about that last week. How would the Chiefs respond after they really kind of laid a big egg over at Indianapolis? And I think the rest of the league had better take notice. And of course, ESPN, Alex, has moved the Kansas City Chiefs back to the number one spot in their power rankings for NFL football this week after dropping them down to number five after one loss. And I think we talked about that last week too. You know, it's one game. It doesn't make the whole season, and people kind of wrote them off. But yeah, they were a really good Sunday night.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, the defense and uh Mahomes was just a a regular Mahomes and and Kelsey was making unbelievable catches. Uh very proud of the Chiefs. Let's talk about the Cardinals. The Cardinals, they they lost a game to the Pirates, I guess, which don't affect them now, their playoffs, but uh they will be going for the playoffs. What's your thoughts on the playoffs?
SPEAKER_09Uh my thoughts on the playoffs is uh Cardinals have got a shot. And of course, as people are hearing this show, the playoffs have already begun because they they begin Friday, October the 7th, as most people hear the show on Saturday. But uh uh yeah, they're playing the Philadelphia Phillies in the wildcard round. Uh all three games uh this weekend are in St. Louis. That's a huge advantage. Albert's knocking the cover off the ball. We need to get Arenado back in the swing, and Goldsmith in a little bit of a funk right now. But uh they'll come out of it uh when the the game intensifies, and that's what happens in the playoffs. Every pitch intensifies, and I think they're gonna be okay. I think they're gonna be all right.
SPEAKER_06I sure hope so. I'm just concerned about some of their younger pitchers that they're bringing in. Uh we've seen that through some of the losses of the games that we've had in the past. Yeah, but some of them said that's the first time.
SPEAKER_09But Alex did want to say some of those guys will not make the playoff roster because Jack Flaherty and Adam Wainwright will replace them in the bullpen. Neither one of those two guys are going to be in the starting rotation. They'll be in the pen. So all that changes come playoff time.
SPEAKER_06Yes, it does. Let's talk about high school football. Uh high school rankings are out there. Where where's uh all the high school teams ranked at in our listening areas?
SPEAKER_09Um well, there's only two. Uh Liberty uh number eight, I believe. And the West Plains Discords have dropped down to number ten uh with back-to-back losses. And of course, uh, whatever happened last night, if people hear this will you know have a lot to do and a lot to say with uh what the rankings are next week. Uh right now it's got the coaches that don't get too concerned with rankings. Right now, it's of course conference standings, and and your Liberty Eagles are tied for first place in the FCA with the Houston Tigers, who are also undefeated, and you guys play the last week of the regular season, and that game will be up for all the marbles in the FCA. And then, of course, we move into the playoffs and districts, and uh a number of the area teams are in the top half of their district standings as it stands right now. So that's kind of about it. You know, for some teams, it's just playing out the string and trying to get healthy and get ready for districts.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we want to wish all the teams around the Cape Grottar area of luck uh this this upcoming Friday night under the Friday night lights, and also the teams around Ava, Missouri, uh, and the listening area over there, as well as all of the Salem, Missouri area as well.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Popla Black.
SPEAKER_06Liberty faces at Kabul, Missouri. Liberty faces Kabul this Friday night at Mountain View, Missouri at the football field. Uh Tyler Farr will be coming into town, and Tyler is supposed to be coming to the football game to watch the Liberty Eagles play. And uh he was he's good friends with J.D. Rutledge, my nephew, wants to watch his boys play. Tyler was a running back and a safety when he played high school football. Do you know that?
SPEAKER_09I did know that, yes. And was pretty good.
SPEAKER_06Yes, he was. He was real good, so he he likes high school football. Uh Tyler Farr will be at Bambura, Missouri, this coming Saturday night, October the 8th. He goes on stage at 9 15 p.m. There will be three other bands that open up for Tyler, which is Bottoms Up Band, JD Hale, and Jesse Hammock. All these bands are very popular bands here in the Ozark, so we're going to talk more about that once we get Miss Ricky Maples on here. Have you ever met Ricky Maples, Red Bones?
SPEAKER_09I don't think I have. I don't think I've had the pleasure. I know I've been doing some work uh uh y'all in conjunction with our sales rep over there, who's kind of been handling the advertising uh for K Country on uh the River Jam, but we have never actually met in person, I don't think. But I'll be over there Saturday afternoon. We're doing live broadcasts from three to five Saturday, so I'll I'll get a chance to meet Ricky maybe on Saturday.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you'll get to meet her. She's Donald's kind of like me. We've got women that make us look good, you know. He's got a good-looking woman. She's done okay. Ricky's laughing in the background here, about her giggle a little bit. But uh, we're gonna go to a break. We're swatting gnats from us, and the chickers are biting our legs here. Uh, I'm standing here with our special guest, Miss Ricky Maples. Ricky Maples, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER_02Thank you so much. How are you?
SPEAKER_06I'm good, Rick. I I'm good, other than these gnats. I know, right? Yeah. So we're sitting here at the riverfront. We're looking at the current river. We're looking where you've got the stage going to be set up. Uh Donald's over there with the audio sound guy and the stage guy. We're talking about setting the stage up. Let's talk about Ricky Maples.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_06Who is Ricky Maples? Where were you born?
SPEAKER_02Well, I was actually born in Donovan, Missouri.
SPEAKER_06Donovan, Missouri?
SPEAKER_02Yep. So I'm just a a little bit south of here, but I was born and raised there. I was an army brat as a kid, traveled around, uh, came home to settle and graduate high school from Donathan, and then I've just kind of learned on the fly and built a life in Donathan, and then was lucky enough to relocate here to Van Buren. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_06That is awesome. So did you play sports in high school or anything when you didn't?
SPEAKER_02I didn't actually. No, I was a little bit of a comic book nerd in high school. So um, you know, didn't find my feet till a little later, but but yeah. I do enjoy sports.
SPEAKER_06Do you do you I know you enjoy the outdoors?
SPEAKER_02I do.
SPEAKER_06Do you like turkey hunting, deer hunting, and fishing and all that? Absolutely. What's your favorite? My favorite cookery. Smallmouth fishes. Smallmouth fishes. I do have to mention this, Ricky. I'm gonna mention it. I believe it was in 2021.
SPEAKER_02I think so.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. She remembers Red Bull. Yeah, I remember. It's called the His and Hers Tournament. Uh Her and Donald finished second. Oh. And she lost. Her and Donald lost to another team.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, yeah. Uh that was.
SPEAKER_06I can't remember. They just over 30 votes in that tournament. There was. 30 teams in it. But my niece and I was blessed to win it. We barely beat uh Donald and Ricky, but uh that that is cool. So let's talk about uh the Ozarks here before we get into talking about Popsticks and Fleet and all that. Uh what is it you think people love about this area of Bambi, Missouri and the Cront River?
SPEAKER_02Uh it's just it's beautiful here. It's beautiful here. The people are welcoming, you know, there's a sense of peace when you come to this area, and you can get out on the river, you can leave the world behind for a little while. And that that's a big thing. You know, sometimes you just need a little nature therapy.
SPEAKER_06There's a lot of things to do here in Van Buren.
SPEAKER_02Let's talk about that. There's beautiful sites. There's Big Spring National Park. You know, there's a lot of parks and hiking that a lot of people just don't realize that's easily available to them here. There's lots of places to enjoy both, you know, from side by side rides to boat rides to camping, uh just a ton to do. Canoeing, kayaking. Canoeing, kayaking. Yep.
SPEAKER_06If you go far enough up the river redbone, uh Ricky w knows this, you can see the elk possibly along the river around Paint Rock, Log Yard up in there along the river's Redbone.
SPEAKER_09Uh yeah, I know that. And and of course, one of the things about it is, you know, people are looking for a place for like a uh just a quick weekend getaway. Van Buren is a good place to go. And you know, there's all the stuff that that you and Ricky are talking about, and it's also a lot of other stuff that's within just you know 30 minutes or 45 minutes or an hour's drive away. So you can really kind of get a real sense of what the the entire Ozarks is about just from a stay in Van Buren and then kind of you know venturing out into some of the areas Eminence and you know and and uh Alton and you know Greer and some of the other state parks and uh the Irish wilderness. I mean there's so much stuff right here in our region, and sometimes as residents, guys, we take it for granted.
SPEAKER_06We do.
SPEAKER_02We do, and it and you can have a weekend where you take those day trips, you can go out sightseeing, you can go see all these national, you know, parks and areas and go have lots to do and then come back and settle in for an evening.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly. That's great. That's what I like about Van Buren's got motels here, they've got condos you can rent, uh very popular places to eat, uh Redbeard's uh Hopsticks and Three's The Landing. Uh you got uh Jolly Come when it's open, it's not open right now. Uh Smallies, uh Subways, uh McDonald's, you got all kinds of places eating.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06But but let's talk about now moving to another subject. Uh before we go to a break here, we've got about two minutes left, I think, three minutes. Uh let's talk about Pops, Ticks and Fleas. How did Pop's Ticks and Blees come up? I mean, how was it created? Who created it and and the story behind it?
SPEAKER_02After Donald Dad, uh John Black Senior, was looking for something to do at at eighty-six years old, eighty-five years old. And so they they started a flea market inside an old dollar store building, and he could wheel and deal, he could sell anything, and he enjoyed it so much, he enjoyed visiting. And so we wanted to bring more people through his door, more people he could visit with. So we thought a little festival might be the way to do that. So the first year we started with 20 vendors.
SPEAKER_06And what year was that?
SPEAKER_02That was um 19, I believe.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 2019, right?
SPEAKER_02And he grew his flea market and we brought more people in the door and he got more visitors, and so we decided to keep going and we just grew it each year.
SPEAKER_06Okay, this m Mr. Black, he passed away here last year.
SPEAKER_02He did last year. Yeah, before he could see the festival, he passed in September last year. He was 87 and he worked at flea market seven days a week.
SPEAKER_06And how many people did you have last year at your flea market?
SPEAKER_02We had over 7,000 on festival day.
SPEAKER_067,000 people, Redbone. How many booths did you have rented?
SPEAKER_02We had over 100 vendors.
SPEAKER_06Over a hundred vendors, Redbone. And what are you expecting this year? This coming Saturday.
SPEAKER_02We're expecting the same in vendors, but we're anticipating about 10,000 in visitors.
SPEAKER_06Wow. Redbone, what do you think of that?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I think that's uh that's a you know, and the word out on the street, it is a tremendous festival. And just you know, and adding the music, uh, there at the Riverfront Park, I mean, that that just adds that much more. I mean, that makes it a complete day, and and it's gonna make Van Buren, Missouri a destination for people. And folks, I do hope that you understand when you're listening to this, it is today, October the 8th. Most of you hear the show on Saturday. Uh, it is today, October the 8th. All that's happening in Van Buren. So get in your cars right now and head that direction.

SPEAKER_06Welcome back to American Roots Outdoors. Again, your host, Alex Rutledge, along with Miss Ricky Maples, the coordinator for River Jam 2022. We're standing down here on the riverfront, close to the current river right now, and we're we're visiting with uh Ricky Maples, and she's talking about the River Jam 2022, uh, the flea market and all the events that's going on. So, Ricky, my question. When people come into Bam Burent, if they have not bought their tickets to see PowerPar, JD Hill, Bottoms Up Band, and uh who's uh Jesse Hammock, where can they get tickets? How do they get into the event and where do they park?
SPEAKER_02They they can come right down to the riverfront and they'll actually buy tickets at the gate. We've still got uh plenty of tickets for sale. There are there's designated parking areas throughout town. Uh you'll just have to kind of locate one and and get part of their shuttle services. About 10 to 15 minutes will be should be the most you'd have to wait, and then a hay ride shuttle will come by and pick you up and deliver you down to whichever event you want to attend first.
SPEAKER_06Okay, what time can people enter the event? I know you got a car show. Let's talk about the car show. Answer that question first. What time can they come to the event? The gate and flea market.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the gate uh at at the flea market, we've got the festival, tall festival happening. That starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.
SPEAKER_06Okay, so they can go in there, is it free, or do they?
SPEAKER_02It's free to go into the festival. There's a food truck court, there's bounce houses for the kids. We've got face painters and vendors, galore, and food galore. Uh, and then there'll be a little bit of bluegrass music there during the day.
SPEAKER_06What band is playing?
SPEAKER_02Uh Buzzard Run.
SPEAKER_06Buzzard Run, Red Bunch.
SPEAKER_02Buzzard Run, Austin Meals playing, and Mike Johnson's band is playing. And they'll they'll play in the middle of the day a little bit, and then it'll wind down out there about five o'clock. The the car show starts here, the registration for the car show is at two o'clock at the riverfront. The cars will come in, we'll start judging, and people can kind of start milling in about that time or around two o'clock because I know the announcement was the gates would open at four to two changes. Yeah, we're gonna go ahead and let some people come in and enjoy the car show. Okay. Um, but yeah, the official kickoff is at four o'clock, and you can just buy tickets at the gate and we'll accept uh credit debit or cash.
SPEAKER_06Okay. So Linda will be working the gate, Red Bones, so she'll help keep track of all the games.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she's she's taking care of my tickets.
SPEAKER_06So, Ricky, how many people is the top six employees River Jam 2022 expecting again coming into Van Buren Museum? What is your guess?
SPEAKER_02We're anticipating about 10,000. We had 7,000 last year, and this year's response has over has more than doubled from what we got last year.
SPEAKER_06Well, I talked to Donald Redbone, he said that they made a post, a video post of Tyler's introduction coming to Van Buren, they had over 61,000 views of the video, and they had 3600 interested or coming to this event, Redbone. Yeah, that's fantastic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we only had about 1,400 that responded last year, and we had 7,000 show up.
SPEAKER_06So What do you think of that, Redbone?
SPEAKER_09Well, I think it's gonna be a great night. I know the uh uh I I know folks here uh I'm excited about getting over there for the car show. And and something kind of unique, uh, and Ricky, you can speak on this if you want to, but uh I think Tyler has agreed to pick his favorite car from the show and pre uh present that person with a very special plaque that day.
SPEAKER_02Yes, he sure has. Donald talked to Tyler and told him he thought, you know, wouldn't it be cool if Tyler could pick his favorite car? And uh and so Tyler said, Yeah, that sounded great. We ended up with a great plaque, and so that'll be presented to to Tyler's pick of the litter.

SPEAKER_02They're coming down 60 highway east and west give us directions you'll actually take you can take the M Highway exit there and there'll also be signs on 60 highway that'll direct you to both exits into Van Buren. Okay. You'll take uh either one of those exits you'll come all the way downtown as far as you can come and there'll be event signs all over the place that will direct you right down to parking areas and then down to the riverfront.
SPEAKER_06Okay there you go Redbone so if you're coming from the the west which is from Birch Tree or Winona you'll come across the bridge as soon as you come across the bridge the first exit on your left takes you down to the downtown square where Jolly Cone is as soon as Jolly Coney take a left and it takes you straight to riverfront. So that's how you'll get in there okay you're coming from the east it will be the third exit coming into town right before you get to the bridge. You will turn right if you're coming from the east and go to Jolly Cone, make a left and take you to riverfront. So there you have it that's how you get into the riverfront River Camp 2022 with Tyler far, hop sticks employs now what kind of things can people expect at the flea market and the car show now the car show people are bringing their cars we're gonna have a giveaway every half hour to the people that brought their cars. We've got gifts that we're gonna give away then at the end of the night at six o'clock we're gonna have a drawing for $250 cash. Yes for people that brought their car.
SPEAKER_02Yep there'll be of course the trophies for each category and then we'll have cash drawings and the the biggest one being the $250 cash drawing is six.
SPEAKER_09Is there bring your armor Redbone I'm gonna bring the K Country cruiser you know we've got it wrapped with country music artists on there. I just may enter it. So that brings me to my next question because that's a whole lot more than I'll make otherwise um the the my other my other question would be is there an entry fee for the guys entering the car show?
SPEAKER_02Yes sir there sure is it's a twenty dollar entry fee but that also gets you one ticket to the concert and then shirts if they're available.
SPEAKER_09Okay. Well that's that that's reasonable enough. I mean twenty bucks you get a ticket for the concert.
SPEAKER_06Yes that yep that's actually cheaper than buying your ticket that say $15. Hey you better bring you a vehicle you get a discount. And I wanna win that $250 I I may put my old 80 model shivy just to have it in there. Yeah Logan wants to buy it Ricky's I give him a ride in a while ago and we give him a chirp his head off in second gear and it barked real hard he goes I love this truck man. Yeah yeah he's already talking about it yeah so so anyway Ricky approximately 10,000 people coming into Ban Beer Missouri what is the response I know when you first initially started this some people thought this ain't never gonna work. This ain't never gonna work so now it's amazing how everybody's seen the response to it and the people every motel's booked Red Bone by the way every condo's leased out Airbnb nobody can find a place to stay so people have to stay in Birch Tree or Line Owner or Papa Bluff to be able to come to this event. So what's people thinking now?
SPEAKER_02Well I am really hoping that uh they've seen that we can really do it. You know when it first when we first drew it, Donald and I looked at each other and we're like let's just keep going. We know we knew it would get to this point. And so people are now seeing that we're really curious.
SPEAKER_06Yeah and you've got how many how many people sponsored this event let's talk about that. We've got over 20 sponsors and 20 sponsors Red Bone helped sponsor this event to get Tyler far here.
SPEAKER_02Yes sir and three quarters of them platinum sponsors.
SPEAKER_06There you go.
SPEAKER_02So it we had huge support this year and a lot of people stepped up to help bring Tyler to the area.
SPEAKER_09You know I think one of the one of the other things about this uh Ricky that y'all are you know maybe becoming trendsetters here because as people hear this all across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas and maybe some community leaders or movers and fakers in other communities that maybe been thinking well trying something like that but they're just you know afraid to pull that finger off. You have an event is going to be apparently a tremendous success. We might see more of this kind of thing happening across the area and uh that just adds more people come in more people spending their money more money in our local economies and and that really is what it's all about is building those local economies.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely absolutely and and visitors to this area enjoying you know enjoying what we have to offer that's what we're all about and the more that people can see what we can do the more things can grow.
SPEAKER_09Yeah and they'll come back. I mean when those people come to town for this I guarantee you everybody that comes to this event October the 8th uh again today if you're hearing the show they're they're probably already thinking wonder what they're gonna do next year we got to come back absolutely because you just never know what we're gonna do.
SPEAKER_06Right and I'm I'm gonna plan a little bug in everybody's ear. We uh I'm kind of on their committee with them and help them promote the shows as you know and and uh we're gonna ask you real quick uh just tell everybody how did you come up with the idea of having Tyler here? Not to pat me on the back but just tell them how you come up with the idea.
SPEAKER_02For real. Donald uh Donald talked to you you guys have talked about you know we talked about adding a concert with the last two or three years. We wanted to figure out each each year as we grew we knew it was going to be a little bigger and a little bigger and we decided we wanted to just go even a little bigger and so we talked about it for a few years and then you and Donald just decided you know hey let's give him a call and see what we can do.
SPEAKER_06And we got her set up so we got we got Tyler Farr everybody coming to Ban Buren Missouri the first riverfront river jam ever to be held in Tyler Farr is the Trend Center.
SPEAKER_02Yes and what a great guest in future I know what a what a great way to start this whole thing off.
SPEAKER_06And you know next year we're talking about can I tell them we're talking about thinking about can I you can start a little bottom all right all right here we go we've mentioned these names so far Craig Morgan Aaron Kippen Freddy Morgan Wallin. Those are the three we're looking at right now we're talking about they may be more that we're bringing up we'll see who we decide to bring but I know as soon as this is over we're looking to book somebody again for next year. So everybody's listening out there if you're not doing nothing Saturday come down to Bam Buren Pops picks and fleas Riverjam 2022 enjoy the car show enjoy the flea market bring your kids this is going to be a family atmosphere uh it's not gonna be a drunken party yeah they'll be drinking beer but it's not gonna be a drunken party. SPEAKER_09Well I just uh you know I just want to reiterate people this is going to be a a fantastic event and uh you know if you're not doing anything at and and again you're hearing the show today the event is this afternoon and tonight get in the car there's there's not anywhere in our listening area at any of the stations where we're airing American Roots outdoors that you can't be there in a couple of hours. So get in the car back to kids if you have them take your lawn chairs blankets whatever and go to River Jam 2022.

SPEAKER_06I must tell you Redbone the JD Hale band really impressed me.
SPEAKER_09You know I um uh JD Hale band and and uh Jesse uh hammock uh I I've been watching both of those guys on Facebook and both of those bands on their Facebook pages and yeah they can bring it them boys can play yeah JD Hale uh uh over over all of them that opened for Tyler was the most impressive not trying to take anything away from everybody hurt anybody's feeling but they were so tight their music and the way they delivered their performances man it was just it was phenomenal but uh you know after that let's talk about what happened that day they had the fall festival as everybody we discussed earlier uh Ricky and Donald done a great job they they made a huge statement in Carter County and the surrounding counties with what they put on there was over 1800 people that came through the gates to watch the concerts there were 79 vehicles at the car show most yeah I was there I was there for a while on Saturday afternoon and uh and I thought I never didn't get an exact count on the cars but I figured it was around 7075 and some great vehicles and when I came into town uh I mean there was just people everywhere and Alex the estimates about the uh about the uh the entire day satisfying about 7000 people came to Vampire Festival and that's just phenomenal and I'm not sure what the population is probably around five or six hundred maybe maybe a thousand and they hosted seven thousand people over the weekend that's that's pretty astounding it sure is and and and the way to look at this is the money that it helped generate for the county and the community so actually the motels were sold out everywhere plumbing to Popper Bluff for this event plumbed to Winona uh possibly even Birch Tree area.
SPEAKER_06But uh again I I just want to repeat this we got to comm have to commend Ricky Maples and Donald Black for their efforts and what they've done to help the the tourism uh along the current river in our communities.
SPEAKER_09Yeah and you know Alex I bet you that if Ricky was able to be with us here if we record this today, she'd also want to thank all of her volunteers to help make the event run smoothly and I mean there were people everywhere. If you had a question boom there's somebody with those bright yellow shirts you ask them and everybody knew exactly where everything was going on and where everybody needed to be I mean this thing ran like clockwork.
SPEAKER_06Yes it did we had prior meetings to that discussing everybody's responsibility and uh that's part of the organization that they run. Donald Black is has OCD him and I are a lot alike we we we got to be you know uh perfectionists professionists at everything we do we try. But uh again I commend them but I want to talk about Tyler Farr's concert here in a second but I want to talk about the Cut River Smallmouth Association the the classic championships. Yeah and you've got to to fish the classics you've got to you have to qualify in the top five teams of any tournament that started in June from into the end of September. So so uh there were 13 teams that qualified that that fished the classic Saturday and we launched at 7 a.m from Watercrash Landing and Big Spring Landing so we weighed in at five o'clock at the Watercrash Landing uh there was 13 boats in the tournament and the classic championship was won by Troy McAfee and Jack Rutledge team McAfee Rutledge they had a weight of 1055 and second place went to Team Nicholson. Aaron Nicholson and his dad won an accomplishment congratulations Aaron and Lester our father son team they had eight pounds I think eight fourteen and they were second place.
SPEAKER_09Third place went to the Neal brothers which they were just a little over eight pounds uh Neil team Neil uh Robert and Dwayne Neal and fourth place went to Brody Rutledge and myself oh congratulations yeah we had 794 and fifth place went to uh team uh Burke Ramsey out of Carter County but the four top teams was out of Shannon County Well that's outstanding and and I gotta tell you I actually saw uh JD at the uh car show on Saturday afternoon he said have you heard anything from Alex about how the uh how they did the fishing tournament today have you heard anything from Alex I was like well it's only 430 they're not done yet so he was kind of anxious to see how Brody finished and you Oh yeah well we finished fourth we won six hundred and I believe it was six hundred and ninety something dollars almost seven hundred dollars oh wow first place uh Max D.
SPEAKER_06Rutland they won over twelve hundred dollars and yeah second place was almost a thousand I believe third place was eight hundred and something fourth place six ninety four and fifth place I believe was five hundred and something so uh pretty good tournament uh we're very honored uh my partner Rick York could not fish a bunch of tournaments so Brody and I fished the last two tournaments together and we qualified together so very cool yeah and I understand the fishing was kind of tough on the river over this past weekend.
SPEAKER_09I know I had some friends up there fishing and they said it was just a little bit tough.
SPEAKER_06It's really clear crystal clear and it's full moon so you know what that means most of the fish spent a night long. Yeah but uh it was very very very tough. Uh Troy McAfee and Jack Rutley they blew everybody out by two pounds.
SPEAKER_09Wow the second place team was two pounds behind uh right at two pounds so well and ten and ten pounds and ten pounds a river smallmouth is a good stringer of fish.
SPEAKER_06That's over two pound average.
SPEAKER_09Yeah absolutely that's a that's a good river fish right there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah let's talk about Tyler Farr Tyler Fr came in on Wednesday night at 2 a.m in the morning and him and his buddies they brought their river boats too they're all river rats yeah and three three or four of his boys brought the river boats uh he came in uh he fished Wednesday uh Thursday morning with his buddies on the river they caught several smallmouth and then Thursday night we all went gigging uh big shout out to Nick Black and Ethan Hoffman and Robbie Williams for helping us and Donald Black and Ricky uh for helping us take these guys gigging they they killed 42 suckers uh we went down below the spring uh we cleaned them all and we clayed them and took them back to Donald and Ricky's place and we cooked on the back deck. Robbie Williams cooked it was fabulous. Uh some of Tyler's buddies had never eaten suckers before and they was truly amazed and said man we're gonna start something now down in Tennessee So Tyler said he may start a gig and guide service down there.
SPEAKER_09Did Tyler actually gig any of the fish? That would be the big question. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, he killed several of them. They killed 20 some in their boat. Oh wow. Tyler and Penrod. But no, uh, that's what we did on Thursday night, and uh Friday morning, uh they got up and they went fishing again. They they uh caught several small mouth, they caught some 20 inchers that day. They was using live bait. And then Friday evening Tyler met us at the Mountain View Airport across from the football stadium. We had a tailgate party, we had fooled pork and fried uh turkey breast and deer meat and we had a big time and then we went to the ball game. And uh Tyler didn't know it. We're sitting on the 50 yard line about I don't know, 15 rows up, up close to the top. I texted Eddie Martin, I said, Eddie Martin, please make an announcement that country music recording artist Tyler Farr is in at the stadium watching the football game. He'd done that and the crowd just roared and went nuts, and Tyler didn't care. Tyler signed autographs most of the game. People was coming from everywhere to meet him, and halftime he went out in the the parking lot and kids were surrounding him. It was crazy. He would get his pictures with the kids and signed stuff for them. Tyler was just so gracious. And I see one of Tyler's posts on Twitter on Facebook. His post he showed a picture of the football field and the people from the stadium, the chairs, and he says, through all the chaos we're going through, there's still tranquility at Friday night lights.
SPEAKER_09Yep, absolutely. And then he had a big day Saturday, and I know I I got an opportunity to uh talk to Tyler on the radio when we were doing a live broadcast from the car show. And uh after he got done picking the uh the best of show, uh, we actually got the opportunity for him to announce that live on the radio. So and he picked a transam.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he told me about it because I I had to pick the transam. It's it was just so beautiful, but also represents smoking the bandit.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, there you go. And how was the show? I did not get an opportunity to say I had another commitment, so how was the concert?
SPEAKER_06Okay, it was very well organized again. Uh Lindo helped run the VIP gate entrance, and uh they estimated over 1,800 people had come through the gates. So it was very well pleased. We was expecting 2,000 to 3,000 people. Uh there was other events going on all around us. Emletness, Missouri, I think, had their big fall festival, Arts and Crafts. That was a huge turnout for Shannon County, too, which is wonderful. Uh there was other events going at, I think Kabul and other places, but I think for his first, uh Donald Ricky's first uh concert like that, it was a huge success, Redbone.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I and that's the word that I get through uh our representative that uh they were they were well pleased with everything. And and I actually talked to a guy today uh who was at the concert, and he said, Man, Tyler Farr rocked it out. He said he thoroughly enjoyed the show.
SPEAKER_06Yes, and I must commend the the stage and like people. They're from down at Pocahontas, Arkansas, and I'm gonna tell you they they set it up nice. And uh I just again, Donald Black and Ricky worked themselves to death the last two weeks here putting this thing together, and I thank them for letting me be a part of it and help promote it, as well as you and others. But uh again, it's huge success. But next year we're looking at having another one again during the fall festival, and some of the people we're looking at is that Aaron Tippen, Craig Morgan, and Morgan Wallace so far. But there'll be other ones we'll look at as well.
SPEAKER_09All right, very cool. All right, so Alex, we need to uh kind of wrap this up as we uh as we uh kind of put the uh put the stamp of approval on uh Van Buren Fall Festival and River Jam 2022.
SPEAKER_06Yes, sir. And uh I've also had other people call me, wanting me to help them do it in their other towns. Mountain View, Missouri is wanting to put on a big one next year. We may not all agree on the same thing or have the same politics, but we can all come to a conclusion or we can all get along to create success in a small community like what transpired in Carter County.
